Yes, I am at that stage again when I want to start writing something new, and I have no idea where to start. This dilemma doesn't stem from a lack of ideas , but rather from an abundance of ideas. I have so many plotlines running around in my head that I find myself confused when I sit down to write. Characters are arguing with each other, characters that are from completely different book ideas, and I don't know who is shouting the loudest.
Is it Prince Garrett and his finacee Janessa Rogers from Royal Target? So many people have asked me to write a sequel to that novel that I've had ideas warring inside my head for years...literally.
Could it be Quinn Lambert from the Saint Squad who is insisting that his story isn't quite finished? (His story, Smokescreen, will come out next spring, but he isn't sure that there isn't more to tell.)
Maybe it's Charlie Whitmore, younger brother to Matt Whitmore from my Undercurrents series.
Then there's Jay Wellman, a minor character from my upcoming book, Backlash. He definitely has a story brewing on the horizon.
See my problem? And yes, I'm writing this blog because I am avoiding the four open Word files on my computer, each of them only three pages or less, while I wait for one of those characters to yell WRITE MY STORY NOW!!!
I'm listening... Still listening....

I don't think you can go wrong. I'm dying to read any of those stories!!
I agree any of them would be great, but I think I am pulling for a continuation of Janessa's story...
P.S. I absolutely love your books. I wish I had been able to go to the signing you did at Seagull Book in Clinton Utah a while back.... My daughter Kimberly worked there and had her photo taken with you.

I know this is NO help at all--but I'd love to hear all of them. So . . . flip a coin? Maybe Charlie or Janessa, since Charlie hasn't had anything yet, and it's been a while for Janessa. Although, I know in my own writing sometimes the "urgency" of a character who has more to say, like Quinn, is sometimes important to follow lest things be forgotten . . . .
If you and your characters are taking votes, I'd like to put a few in for Charlie Whitmore. I love all your books but I have a certain fondness for the Undercurrents series as it was where I first fell in love with your writing. What's funny is that I bought the first on a whim when I needed to read something on a break at work. Loved it. But it was a few years later before I found out there were sequals (Hazzah!) and I've been an addicted reader since. I've lost count how many times I've read the Undercurrents series. (I <3 Matt and CJ) And we've seen so much from the two other Whitmore siblings, I just think it's high time Charlie got a chance for his story to be told. :D Thanks for writing and sharing your imagination with us. I've enjoyed every adventure.
I think my vote is with Admiral Lily. I loved that series and would love to read more. Although I love all your other works as well so really, you couldn't go wrong with anything. I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for your next book!
Thanks everyone! I actually have already written one book for Charlie Whitmore, but I am waiting back to hear if it's being accepted by my publisher. If all goes well, I think there's another book that Charlie wants written, but for now I think I'm going to wait until I know the fate of the first one.
So far, Garrett and Janessa have been talking the loudest, but I only have 25 pages so far so it's hard to know if their story will stick. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something will!
I love the Undercurrent series so one about Charlie would be great but I also liked Royal Target. I have really enjoyed all your books.
After reading Backlash and Smokescreen recently and knowing that Obsession is due out later this year, I remembered this old post about how you couldn't decide who's story to tackle next. So I searched it out to refresh which characters you'd mentioned. Now with the wonderful thing of 20/20 hindsight I'm fully comprehending your dilemma. As the reader I want to know all those stories now, so as the writer I can only imagine the difficulty. *sigh* Oh well. It's nice to know you've got a lot of ideas running around and there are - at least minor - plans for each of those because I just can't get enough of your work. I haven't been this into a specific author since the days of my childhood when I was addicted to Babysitters Club, Animorphs and Nancy Drew. Wouldn't it be awesome to have some kind of device that froze time (not indefinitely because that would only cause more problems) that gave you just a little more time to juggle everything in life a little more flexibly? :) Anyway, it wouldn't be a post from me without some gushing. Home you don't get tired of the praise. :D Until next time!
